The African Group of Ambassadors in Kampala, including the Nigeria High Commission, joined other colleagues together on May 25, 2025, to celebrate Africa Day at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel. The event marked the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity, now the African Union (AU).
This year’s theme, "Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations," emphasized the continent’s commitment to historical redress, dignity, and unity. The celebration brought together over eighteen African Ambassadors and Heads of Mission, dignitaries from Uganda's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and representatives of the diplomatic community.
On behalf of the African Group, H.E. Joseph Rutabana, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Rwanda, delivered the AU Chairperson’s message, highlighting Africa’s growing strength, youthful population, and commitment to Pan-African ideals. Ambassador Charles Ssentongo, representing Uganda’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, reaffirmed the country's dedication to African-led development and called for renewed engagement with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and Agenda 2063.
The Nigeria High Commission was proud to participate in this important occasion, which reinforced Africa's collective spirit and Nigeria’s continuing role in advancing continental peace, justice, and prosperity.
