The Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Republic of Uganda have always enjoyed excellent relations at all fronts dating, as far back, as during the pre-independence era when as students in London and during war campaigns by Britain, citizens of both countries interacted informally. These initial contacts received further boost when both countries attained independence in the 1960s. Ever since, relations between Nigeria and Uganda have been very warm, fruitful and cordial. The often hold similar views on major political, economic and social issues of international concern. They also hold common membership of such intergovernmental organisations as the UN, African Union, Commonwealth, Non-Aligned Movement, World Trade Organisation (WTO), among others.
The Nigeria High Commission’s avowed aim is, therefore, to relentlessly deepen the cordial relations between both countries by developing new relations and strengthening the existing ones for mutual benefit of both countries, particularly in the area of improved trade volume.
Undoubtedly, digital diplomacy and online communication has become one of the bequeathals of the Covid-19 pandemic. Online communication is now the veritable tool of communication across the globe. This website is, therefore, a reliable platform through which the High Commission of Nigeria in Kampala provides current and useful information about its activities, including those relating to bilateral relations. It also provides information about Nigerians in Diaspora in the Republic of Uganda, information on business and investment opportunities in Nigeria, on tourism, Consular, and education related matters, as well as on immigration and civic responsibilities.
Tourism is one of the growing sectors of the Nigerian economy. It was accorded priority status in the National Tourism Policy launched in 1990 with the intent to make it (tourism) a source of foreign exchange earnings, create employment opportunities, and promote rural enterprises, among other things.
Nigeria offers an ample array of tourist attractions, including extended and capacious river and ocean beaches, suitable for swimming and other aquatic sports, unique wildlife, vast tracts of unspoiled nature ranging from tropical forests, splendid waterfalls, old and modern cities with clement weather conditions conducive to holidaying. Other attractions include traditional ways of life preserved in local customs; rich and varied handicrafts, colourful products illustrative of local arts, and very warm welcoming population. The Nigerian tourism sector presents ample potentials for investment. Foreign and local investors are, therefore, invited to come and invest in the abundant tourism potentials in the country.
